OUR POLICY ON GREEN & RESPONSIBLE TOURISM

At Clear Ride Apartments, we are keen to operate a high standards of performance and advocate socially and environmentally sustainable business practices. Our aim is to bring a positive benefit to the societies in which we operate through high quality services, economic growth, environmental protection, community involvement and employment. In order to adhere to these principles, we endeavor to:

Set sound environmental and social objectives and targets, and integrate a process of review and reporting.

Comply with all applicable environmental laws, statutes, and regulations.

Continuously improve environmental performance and reduce environmental impact of our activities.

Create environmental awareness among our employees, customers, suppliers and the community at large.

Be certified as a responsible tourism operator.

With this obligation in mind we have taken steps to develop and constantly review a structure on Organization, Reporting and Management, Energy Management, Water Management, Waste Management, Purchasing, customer and employee education and community support.

GREEN & RESPOINSIBLE TOURISM PLANS & PROCEDURES

At present we currently:

ORGANISATION, REPORTING & MANAGEMENT

Have a written environmental and responsible tourism policy document.

Have the Hotel Manager assigned to manage environmental issues.

Make annual progress reports on environmental issues with the objective of promoting green and sustainable tourism.

Hold a quarterly green meeting followed by the Health & Safety Meeting.

ENERGY MANAGEMENT

Engage in achieving a reduction in the energy consumption of our hotel.

Effective energy efficient lighting installed in at least 90% of areas.

All apartments are equiped with an energy saving key slot.

Have a policy of purchasing low energy equipment for electrical devices such as fridges, microwaves, cookers. We are keen to purchase equipment with high energy star ratings.

All public area lighting is activated through a light sensor.

Have trained our housekeepers to identify and report common maintenance problems, such as toilet leaks, tap leaks etc.

Have a guest towel reuse/bed linen changing program in place to save water.

Have a bicycle available for guests to use to move around the village and the local area.

Allow guests to park their cars in the car park before check-in time and promote them to walk to the pools.

We have provided cloth airers/dryers and prmote that instead of the use of the cloths dryers.

Our swimiing pool is kept closed during colder months. We open the pool when day light savings start and close the outdoor heated swimming pool when day light savings end.

Cover the swimming pool by 8.00 PM on a daily basis to save on heating.

WATER MANAGEMENT

Engage in achieving a reduction in water consumption.

Have low flush WCs fitted and water saving devices installed in WCs.

Train employees about water saving practices.

Have trained employees to be able to detect and repair leaking showers, toilets etc.

Have implemented water reducing policies e.g. Not watering gardens daily.

Have chosen drought resistant native plant species for landscaping.

WASTE MANAGEMENT

Comply with local council and national waste regulations.

Have procedures in place to reduce or reuse waste where possible e.g. The Green Box

Collect recyclable items separately (cardboard, plastic, glass, metals, general waste, etc.).

Have replaced disposable items with reusable ones e.g. no package soaps etc. Using Dispensers.

Avoid using single use condiments (jam, butter, etc) with more packaging, in favor of reusable containers.

Have a two fold garbage collection system in rooms.

PURCHASING

Purchase biodegradable products only.

Purchase and use local suppliers as much as possible. Currently using 90% local industry and suppliers.

Purchase organics whenever possible.

Emphasize whenever possible the purchasing of products that are certified for their environmental quality.

Buy products in bulk to minimize packaging and buy from bulk suppliers who are concerned about enviornmental practices.

Take an active role in influencing and working with suppliers to identify locally produced, fair trade and environmentally friendly products.

Purchase cleaning materials with low environmental impact.

COMMUNITY SUPPORT

Respect the surrounding local culture and heritage.

Sponsor possible donations to Schools and Cancer Societies which involve Children.

CUSTOMER EDUCATION

Encourage guests to support the local economy.

Provide guests with information regarding to the areas and activities.

Provide guests with information about how to reduce, reuse and recycle during their stay through the In Room Conservation and Recycling Guide and the Guest Compendium.

Provide guests with information and encouragement to follow energy saving practices e.g. switching off lights, air conditioning, reusing towels, etc. through the In Room Conservation and Recycling Guide and the Guest Compendium.

Provide guests with information and tips for water saving e.g. turning off taps when brushing teeth, etc.

Encourage guests to explore the destination beyond the boundaries of the property.

EMPLOYEE TRAINING

Include environmental aspects into employee induction & orientation and training, such as how to reduce energy, water and waste.

Have an employee and guest ideas campaign to solicit ideas about how to reduce the hotel’s environmental impact.
